Bridge to TERABITHIA by Katherine Paterson. Pages 1-47

Chapter 1-4
Jess is a 10-year-boy, 5th grade, who has 4 sisters. Sometimes he feels lonely among all females who are his sisters and his mother. His father works from early in the morning to late at the night. His father rarely talks to him. Jess likes running and drawing. However, nobody understands the pictures that he draws except a music teacher, whose name is Miss Edmunds. One morning, he happened to meet an eccentric girl who just moved nearby whose name is Leslie Burke. She also became his classmates as a new student. She is a wonder girl. She is the fastest runner in the 4, 5th grades and she wrote so good essays that her teacher admired her. Her parents are writer who are rich. Money isn’t the problem for her family. There is the matter of television. Jess was surprised that there are people like that because his family has always money problem. Her family moved to here, farm, to think about what’s important. One day Jess and Leslie made their own secret place, named Terabithia. The only way they can get in there is by swinging across on the enchanted rope.

Leslie is an interesting girl. It took for a while for me to understand this story. I know who are the main character and their relationship, but I did not understand about Terabithia. They made a castle as their stronghold, secret place. However, where is it? They go to there by using a rope? Where is the river? I was confused what was real world and which one is their own mysterious world they made up. Now I know. They made the small castle to stay which is real world, and Leslie makes her own imaginary story and world. So does Jess. They called the world TERABITHIA. I think they will make a lot of fancy worlds.

When you were a child, didn't you have a magic place to go to? Maybe it was a place in the park, or in the trees near your house, or maybe even a place in your yard -- but when you were there, it was a magic place. This is the power of imagination!
