Brigde to TERABITHIA by Katherine Paterson. Pages 48-110

Chapter5-11
Leslie likes making up stories. Whenever she talks stories to him, he is drawn into them. He tried going to Terabithia alone, but he couldn’t because he needed Leslie to make the magic. On Christmas Eve afternoon, they exchanged presents. He gave her a dog and she made him the guardian of Terabithia. The dog was named Prince Terrien. She gave him box of watercolors and pad of heavy art paper.
Easter is the only time in the year that Jess’s family goes to church. Leslie also went there with them; it was her first to go to church. She thought Jesus died on the cross is a beautiful story, but she didn’t believe the Bible. Jess couldn’t understand her feeling. One of his sisters convinced her that if she didn’t believe the Bible, she would go to hell. Still, she didn’t believe.
In the rainy day, even in a magic kingdom, Terabithia, he couldn't enjoy because it was cold and scary. He knows that no matter how strong the wind and rainy are, she still goes there.
The next day, it was still rainnig heavyly, Jess went to the National Gallery with his teacher, Miss Edmunds. He didn't ask Leslie whether she wanted to go or not. When he went back home, everybody's face was pale. "Your girl friend's dead, and Momma(mom) thought you was dead, too." One of his sisters said. She was found in the creek. The old rope Jess and Leslie had been using was broken and she hit her head on something when she fell. Jess wouldn't believe her death.

NO!! Leslie has died! It was so sad. I think it's not easy for children to accept someone's death especially the one who are really close to them. I wonder how the story develops next. Is Jess going to do well without her? What about Terabithia?

A lot of people are shocked by this part of the book -- when I watched the movie, I know that I was certainly surprised when this happened! But it's important to think about death, and to learn to accept it, and learn from it.
