This chapter talks about the struggle for an education , the slaves desired a chance to go to school . Washington had tried to overcome difficulties to have knowledge for his future .He had to walk a long way and beg rides in wagons and carts , he asked for lodging at several places , but they all wanted money. Not knowing what else to do , he walked the streets and wished for one chicken leg or pie in the future .
I really like this chapter , it brought me back the poor in my country . I admire them much ;they have a great desire for knowledge although they are very poor and their passion for study make me more respect them .

When people complain that they need a bigger TV or a newer car or a bigger house, I always try to remember that these people have no idea what suffering and desperation really are.
