Madame Gaillard, who took every children in every ages with the fair prices, couldn't smell anything since her father hit her head. This woman didn't feel anything feeling of love or every other scents, even when her own chilren or her husband died. However, that was why Grenouille could grow up in her house, even though he didn't smell anything, Madame Gaillard didn't scared of or hated him because she lost her feeling of scents. But the other children were really afraid of Grenouille, they tried to kill him many times but they failed, one path was because they didn't want to use their own hand to kill him. They didn't want to touch him.
Grenouille grew up, he studied how to speak or how to read very slow. "Wood", for example, he saw wood and heard its name many time, but not until he was interested in it, he wouldn't say that word. But his nose improved a lot, he could smell the coins behind the wardrobe, or a guest who didn't come the house yet, or when it would be rainy. That made Madame Gaillard impressed, and also scared, too. She decided to give him to Monsieur Grimal, who controled a tannery. However, after that, her life wasn't better, all she wanted was had a saving money, bought a house and died in it. But in the end of her life, there was war, the money that she saved became papers and were difficult to use that time. Then she was brought to the Hotel- Dieu, where there were hundreds sick people. Madame Gaillard was laid on the bed, which her husband laid on before he died, which she has never wanted to lay on.
At the first time Grenouille worked at Grimal's tannery, he worked very hard as an animal. He ven had anthrax one year later, anyone who had this illness would support to be dead. But Grenouille " survived " anthrax and was even immune to it.
One day, he was allowed to have some free hours after work. Grenouille smelled one scent, a brilliant scent that he couldn't image what was that. He followed it through the buildings, through the other land and at last, he smelled that the scent was from a beautiful girl. He killed her, to smell her, he smelled her until she didn't have any scent left. After that, Grenouille found out his ambition, he wanted to control the scents and made the scent for "his own".
