The Law of Club and Fang

Buck transferred to Dyea beach. He must always work in there. Only working can avoid beating by “savages”. Attack is a constant threat. There is a lady called Curly. She just wanted to friendly to the dogs. But all she got is killed by one guy. She almost literally torn to pieces. Buck usually troubled by this scene. That was the way “no fair play”. There are two brothers came work with Buck. He feels them as comrades. Dave is one of the dogs who nips at Buck whenever he is making mistakes. Every night it is hard to let he fall in sleep. He always feel exhausted. He is bigger than the other dogs, and though he receives lots of works, he never feels satisfied. It’s hard to get enough food in Dyea beach. Buck stole food. He knows good personality depends on different environments. Be a thief is not on reason but on instinct. He does things because they are necessary.

I learned what is savage from this part. I can understand why he steal food. Be living on the land is the most important thing for Buck. I respect him very muck. I hate the people who just know use the club and fang bitterly. I hope Buck can take other people who are enduring the darkness under control, and be the king to win the freedom.

Here we can see how our environment can change a person -- or a dog, like Buck. We have to especially feel bad when animals like Buck are put into these situations, because, unlike people, they cannot understand why they must live like they do.
