Charli and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. Pages 1 - 34

Charlie lives together with his parents and 4 old grandparents in a small wooden house on the edge of a great town. His family was so poor. There were only 2 rooms and 1 bed at that house. The bed was given to 4 old grandparens, and Charlie and his parents slept in the other room, upon mattresses on the floor. They even didn't have enough money to buy proper food for them all. The one thing he longed for more than anything else was chocolate... He could get chocolate only one time in a year. That time is his birthday.
Every night after he had finished dinner, he went into the room of his 4 grandparents to listen their stories. They were telling the story about Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Wonka's Chocolate Factory is the biggest in the world, and Mr. Willy Wonka is the cleverest chocolate maker in the world. They were talking about it everyday until one day Charlie's father came into the room. He told the news about Wonka's Chocolate Factory. The news said that Mr. Willy Wonka have decided to allow five children to visit his factory this year, but they should find 5 Golden Tickets have been hidden underneath the ordanary wrapping paper of Wonka's candies.
The very next day, the first Golden Ticket was found. The finder was a boy called Augustus Gloop. He was a nine year old boy who was so enormously fat. One day before Charlie's birthday, the newspaper announced that the second Golden Ticket had been found. The lucky person was a small girl called Veruca Salt who is spoiled by her parents.
Tomorrow is Charlie's birthday. In that morning, he went to his gandparent's room with present in his two hands. Everybody was waiting for Charlie to start opening his present. Charlie looked up at the candy bar and hope he'll find that Golden Ticket. When he opened, he didn't find anything, only chocolate bar.
That evening, Charlie's father told the finding of not only the third Golden Ticket, but the fourth as well. The third Golden Ticket was found by Miss Violet Beauregarde. She is a girl who chews gum all day long. The fourth Golden Ticket was found by a boy called Mike Teavee. The Teavee household was crammed like all the others, but young Mike Teavee seemed extremly annoyed by the whole business. And now, there's only one ticket left.

I think this is a good book. The vocabulary is not that difficult because it's like a teenager's novel in America. I could understand almost everything. The story is really good. It's kind of a tale story, and they already made the story into movie. So, who is interesting with this story, just rent this DVD. From the story I've already read, I can tell that this is really an interesting book, because while I was reading, I couldn't stop. I always want to know the result, so I kept reading until I felt asleep. I think Charlie is gonna get the fifth Golden Ticket, because he is the main person in this book. Do you agree with me? ^_^

Sylvia,

You're working much too hard! You don't need such a long summary -- just a short paragraph is enough.

However, I like your reaction to the book. I love the book, too -- and even though I like the movies (they made one in the 1970's, I think, and one a few years ago, with Johnny Depp), the book is even better.

What I like best about Dahl's books is that he isn't too kind to bad people; he finds interesting and painful ways to punish them!
