I read and understood my book a little. The story tell me about girl, her name is Marietta but everyone called her Missy. She lived with her mother. She told about people around her.
First, she told about an accident of Newt Hardbine's father , he wasn't dead but he lost his hearing. Newt Hardbine wasn't Missy's friend, he was just a big boy who had failed every grade at least once time in six grade. She told if you were to look at Newt and her side by side in six grade, you could have pegged them for brother and sister. She told a lot of thing about her chirlhood when she brought home the bacon, about Newt and his wife etc.
And then, she told about her first job at the Pittman County Hospital. In the hospital, she saw a lot of patients with many kind of disease and she saw a lot of blood. She told about Jolene who had a wet tongue of blood from her right shoulder all the way down her bosom, all the color was pulled out of her lips and face. Her big face liked a piece of something cut out of white dough. Missy felt so scared and dizzy, she need someone beside her to advise her. Her mom arrived the hospital, brought a bag of groceries, consoled and advised her. After that she became stronger and kept that job.
She worked there over five and a half years. She had a plan. In her first few years at Pittman County Hospital she was able to help her mom out with the rent and the bills and still managed to save up a couple hundred dollars. With this money she bought a car ,a '55 Volkswagen bug with no windows to speak of, and no back seat and no starter. But it was easy to push start without help .
When she drove over the Pittman line she made two promises to herself. One she kept and the other she didn't. The first was that she would get herself a new name because her mom got marriage with Foster Greer. So she chose one of many names, Taylor Greer. The second promise was that she would drive west until her car stopped running, and there she would stay. But there were somethings she hadn't considered. Her mom taught her well about tires, and many other things besides, but she knew nothing of rocker arms. And she didn't know about the Great Plain.
Above is the part which i read and i summarize them for you. Enjoy them!
